A court order has been reportedly secured to stop the Senate from screening Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers state.

The court order was secured from a Rivers State High Court by one Livingstone Wechie, through his organisation, Integrity Group.

Report has it that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was working through Wechie.

The order is expected to be served on the senate before its sitting, today, October 15.

The group had protested the nomination of Amaechi as minister, accusing him of fraudulent practices during his tenure as governor in the state. They went on to petition President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate, saying the former governor should not be one of the ministerial nominees.

However, Amaechi had denied every of the allegations, describing it as a witch-hunt.

The Senate has been deferring Amaechi’s screening. He was not among the first batch of ministerial nominees who were screened on Tuesday, October 13, by the Senate.

He was supposed to be one of the ten ministerial nominees scheduled to be screened on Wednesday but it was deferred to 20th October due to the inability of the Simon Anyanwu-led committee on ethics and public petitions to submit its report on petitions against him.
