The Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has inaugurated the *APC Reconciliation Committee,* as they prepare for the party’s National Convention.
The ceremony was performed by Yobe state Governor and Chairman, APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC, Mai Mala Buni on Monday, in Abuja.
Speaking during the event, Buni explained that the *APC Reconciliation Committee* was set up in order to reconcile members who are aggrieved by the outcome of the party’s Congresses.
He added that members of the committee were selected critically based on their individual track records of excellence while also putting into consideration, their level of commitment and dedication in their services to the party.
He explained that the new members of the *APC Reconciliation Committee* were particularly expected to examine areas where the party has conflicts in the recently concluded Ward and Local Government congress and also proffer solutions to their problems.
He commended them for the great sacrifices they made towards the process of rebuilding the party, while also stating that the much expected congresses have started and also progressed with notable successes, adding that constituted mechanisms like the appeal committees that will address complaints from the conduct of the congresses have also been constituted.
He emphasized that the assignment of the *APC Reconciliation Committee* will greatly impact and influence the convention because their report on the solution to the different problems will show their readiness as a united and strong family for the National Convention.
He called on them to remain resolute and dedicated to their roles and always work as a team while urging them to put the interest of the party above personal and selfish interests for the party to remain strong and united as the country’s leading political party.
He also posited that the duty of the *APC Reconciliation Committee* is very important and crucial because they objectively reconcile, harmonize, integrate and unite members of the party.
They are also to resolve real or perceived differences and close all cracks in the wall, so as to approach the National Convention with a united front.
As the *APC Reconciliation Committee,* they were also mandated to conduct appropriate meetings between noted groups in each state where they were disputes, so as to have genuine reconciliation and establishing of lasting peace and unity in the party, Buni added.
They are also expected as a committee to meet with party leaders and stakeholders when necessary in order to achieve peace within the party at all times.
The APC has progressed significantly with purpose and productive leadership which has promoted Justice, equity and genuine reconciliation to give partner members a true sense of family, Buni added
He expressed his joy at the rate at which confidence and trust in the party has been restored, citing that since they came on board, the party’s membership has supported the Buhari administration and the party leadership.
He lauded loyal party members who obeyed the directive to withdraw multiple court cases instituted against APC, adding that it helped to the speedy reconciliation and rebranding of the party.
He said that the South East zone which is the stronghold of opposition parties, had gradually melted into the APC while increasing its fortunes to remain Nigeria’s leading political party, adding that over 40 million members were registered while the process was still ongoing. This, he said, provided existing and new members with a sense of ownership of a party.
Recall that the APC Reconciliation Committee has former Governor Abdullahi Adamu of Nassarawa state as Chairman, while Moses Adeyemo stands as Secretary. Other members include former Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime, former Benue state Governor, George Akume, former governor of Jigawa state, Ali Saad and former speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
