Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, on Tuesday celebrated his victory in the National Assembly election with a promise not to take the victory for granted.

He, however, called for a mental test for the returning officer who claimed that he declared him (the governor) the winner of the election under duress.

Okorocha spoke with journalists at the Collation Centre in Orlu, shortly after he was declared winner.

He said it appeared that the returning officer was only playing out a script.

He claimed that the rules were changed during the elections to favour a particular party in the state.

He said, “On my own election, after having recorded victory in nine out of the 12 local government areas announced, we heard that they were trying to move the result sheets to Owerri.

“When we inquired why, the man said he was tired and did not feel safe. But nobody was threatening him. In the end, we discovered he didn’t have the declaration sheet.

“I wonder where this is taking us to. I hope INEC will change this system because we will resist any attempt to try this again in the next election.

“They should examine the returning officer to know his mental state. If he is not mentally disturbed, then he must be a criminal to ever think of such a thing.

“How could someone ask you to change the result of an election he has already won? My score is above 90,000 and the nearest to me is slightly above half of it, when you combine both Jones’s and Izunaso’s votes.

“They can’t match or contest against me in Imo State not to talk of Orlu zone. Am I even supposed to contest for Senate in Orlu? I never campaigned, but only declared my ambition.”
