Senator Godswill Akpabio has warned that the Biafra agitation which has gathered momentum in some parts of the southeast is a threat to Nigeria’s survival.

The Senate minority leader gave the warning on Thursday, July 6, when addressing his constituents in Akwa Ibom north west senatorial district in Ikot Ekpene, Premium Times reports.

The senator also stated that the Boko Haram insurgency and the Arewa eviction to Igbos in the north were other factors threatening the existence of Nigeria.

“If the Biafra agitation is not fixed; if the Arewa threat of the eviction of Igbos is not addressed; if Boko Haram and insurgency which despite the gallantry of our armed forces in crushing them, still perpetrate their evil of bombing and launching attacks at soft targets, are not totally diminished; if all the other flash points are allowed to fester; then the uneven heartbeat of the country could degenerate into a cardiac arrest,” the senator said.

He urged Nigerians to pray for the nation and join hands to move the country forward.

Meanwhile, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, of plotting to assassinate its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, through military coup.

The pro-Biafra group in a statement on Thursday, July 6, alleged that the former president also plans to overthrow the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari through the purported coup.

The spokesperson for the group, Emma Powerful, made the allegation in reaction to a statement credited to Obasanjo that Kanu should be made to put a stop to his agitation for Biafra.

The group said Obasanjo’s statement was an invitation for the army to plot a coup in Nigeria and assassinate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other members of IPOB who were using peaceful means to agitate for Biafra.
