Nigerian Navy Gets Equipment Donation Worth $180k From US

The Nigerian and the US had in the past experienced a beautiful international and diplomatic relationship, shared great Intel’s in issues pertaining to security, enjoyed certain lucrative and profitable business and economic transactions.

These international relationship between Nigerians and the US has continued to wax strongly in all aspects raging from economic development, political support, security interventions, the entertainment industry as majority of Nigerian artists produces and do lots of work with their American colleagues.

Meanwhile majority of Nigerians living in the US are quite successful in their fields of study and have contributed professionally and immensely as well to the development of the American economy.

Despite the fact that many may perceive and have the impression that some Nigerians citizens are fraudulent, it would also be fallacious to admit that all Nigerians are dubiously manipulative because majority on the contrary have proven their worth and significance especially in the recent announcement of the Nigerian doctor who helped develop a new vaccine for covid-19.

By way of confirmation of the goodwill and existing relationship between these two countries news sources disclosed that the United states had donated to the Nigerian Navy, maritime security equipment worth $180,000 (70 million).

The news was revealed by the US consulate in Lagos in a statement on Friday 11. December 2020.

Recounting the event, the consulate claimed that, the equipment was donated in order to aid the navy in upgrading the anti-piracy and nautical security functions of the country’s regional maritime awareness capability (RMAC).

The United states consul general in Lagos, Claire Pierangelo confirmed the objective behind the gesture by saying that the US government is committed to supporting the Nigerian navy in its operations. She said the equipment were donated to help improve the navy’s capacity to monitor and counter marine threats through its RMAC.

“The United States is committed to supporting the Nigerian Navy in its effort toward securing not only your territorial waters but the larger Gulf of Guinea,” she said.

“The equipment we have here today is part of RMAC that began in 2006, aimed at enhancing the Nigerian Navy’s capacity to monitor and respond to the diverse maritime threats in your waters and the Gulf of Guinea.”

Meanwhile chief of staff officer Tanko Pani, who controls the western naval command, Lagos, received the surveillance equipment on behalf of the Nigerian navy, and while appreciating the gesture also acknowledge the impact and positive effects the introduction of maritime facilities brought to the navy adding that he was grateful for the support of the US

“It is pertinent to state that the introduction of the Regional Maritime Awareness Capability facilities in the Nigerian Navy has greatly enhanced our maritime policing efforts through intelligence-gathering patrols,” he said.

“We are indeed delighted and grateful for the continuous support of the United States.”

This indeed is a welcomed development for a country like Nigerian currently plagued by challenges of insecurities and insurgency.
