Enyeams poses with his Fifa award
Former Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has been rewarded by the world football governing body FIFA for his exploits in Ligue 1.
Enyeama, who is Nigeria’s most capped international has also passed the 100th Ligue 1 appearance for Lille. He took to his Instagram handle to share the news of the FIFA award to his fans. “This is how goodness and mercy will follow you all this month of March. First day of the month, FIFA got me a trophy for hardwork, dedication, success,” he wrote under a photograph of himself with a plaque.
“Thank you @FIFA. I want to wish everyone reading this message a wonderful month of March. God did it for me. God will do it for us.” It would be recalled that the 33-year-old retired from the international football after the shot-he fell out with former coach Sunday Oliseh in the team’s camp in Belgium.
The drama in Belgium allegedly started after Oliseh told Enyeama to leave the camp for questioning his choice of Ahmed Musa as captain. Enyeama denied this allegation saying his confrontation with gaffer Sunday Oliseh arose after his dead mother was insulted. However, with the resignation of Sunday Oliseh, the Lille OSC goalkeeper stated categorically that he will not make a return to the Super Eagles despite Sunday Oliseh’s resignation.
With rumours circulating that Enyeama and fellow retiree Emenike could be recalled, the no.1 shot-stopper disclosed that he is longer interested. “I don’t want to talk about this issue again. I think my earlier decision stands,” he told Brila fm.
