The Think Tank for Sustainable Development (TTTSD) has convened a high-level webinar titled ‘Nigeria Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: Examining a Nation’s Trajectory,’ aimed at fostering critical conversations about the country’s evolution and future direction.

According to a statement released by the organization, the virtual gathering assembled various stakeholders, including policymakers, academics, development practitioners, private sector leaders, and members of the public, with the aim of creating a platform for informed, evidence-based dialogue on Nigeria’s historical journey, its socio-economic and political realities, as well as the pathways toward a more sustainable and unified future.

Speaking, during the event, The Chairman of TTTSD Gen. Chris A. Garuba [Rtd] described the TTTSD as a non-partisan and independent network of professionals from diverse fields. He stated that the initiative aligned with its commitment to promoting patriotism and responsible nationalism. He further emphasized the importance of engaging citizens and institutions in meaningful discussions capable of contributing to nation-building.
According to the statement, the organization believes that Nigeria stood at a critical juncture, pointing to ongoing governance, economic, and social challenges facing the country. It stressed that the complexity of these issues required collaborative solutions and well-informed public discourse more than ever.

During the session, participants explored several key themes designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the nation’s trajectory.

Dr. Sam Amadi, who made a presentation, examined Nigeria’s historical milestones and defining moments, alongside an analysis of current governance structures, economic conditions, and social development trends.

In addition, he focused on identifying opportunities to strengthen national unity and promote justice—two areas widely regarded as crucial to long-term stability. The dialogue also highlighted strategic pathways for achieving sustainable development and fostering responsible leadership across various sectors and the need for collective ownership of the nation’s progress, urging both leaders and citizens to play their parts in driving positive change.

Another major focus of the webinar was the role of citizens and institutions in shaping Nigeria’s future. Dr Charles Okigbo in his comments, harped on that in particular, in relationship to the trajectory of the country’s future direction.

The West African Regional Director for the Ford Foundation, Dr Chichi Aniagolu Okoye, during her speech, provided a hopeful perspective on the country’s potential for transformation.

By convening voices from diverse sectors, TTTSD succeeded in encouraging cross-sector collaboration and generating practical recommendations that could inform policy and public action. The organization reiterated its broader mission to advance evidence-based policy dialogue, strengthen national cohesion, and support sustainable development not only in Nigeria but across the African continent.

Observers noted that such initiatives remained increasingly important as Nigeria continued to grapple with issues ranging from economic uncertainty to social cohesion and governance reforms. Platforms that encouraged open dialogue and shared problem-solving were described as vital tools for navigating these complex challenges.

The webinar attracted a wide audience interested in the country’s development and future prospects, reflecting strong public engagement on national issues. Participants expressed optimism that the insights and recommendations generated would contribute meaningfully to ongoing conversations about Nigeria’s progress.

As the event concluded, it stood as a significant opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on Nigeria’s past, assess its present realities, and collectively chart a course toward a more inclusive and sustainable future.
