Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday dismissed speculations of his alleged defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains a loyal member of the party.

Fubara made the clarification shortly after inspecting the newly reconstructed Rivers State Psychiatric Hospital, which has been converted into a general hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The governor said rumours making the rounds on social media about his alleged movement to another political party were false and misleading.

“There is a lot of drama going on in the media, one story or the other. I am a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and nothing has changed.

“People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly.

“I have not gone anywhere. I am still a member of the APC and I remain a member. Whatever happens, what remains important is the support of the overall interest of the party,” he said.

Speaking on the hospital project, Fubara explained that the decision to expand the facility into a general hospital was informed by the need to provide accessible healthcare services to residents of the area and neighbouring communities.

According to him, the government discovered during an earlier visit to the psychiatric facility that the community lacked a nearby general hospital.

“This particular project, if you remember, when we came in, we had a situation that prompted our sudden visit here and it had to do with mental health issues.

“When we came to this hospital for the inspection of a rehabilitation centre that the board was trying to put together, we found out that we had other issues beyond even the mental health challenge.

“We did not have a general hospital that would service the people within this area. The closest medical centre we have here is the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, which is very far from here.

“We felt that with the space available within this compound, it would be proper for us to also have a general hospital situated in this community that would cater for neighbouring communities extending to Rumuola and Rumuolumeni.

“To the glory of God, the project has been completed,” the governor stated.
