Meet APC, PDP, LP candidates for Edo 2024 election

    The three major political parties in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party (LP), have all got their candidates ahead of the September 21, governorship in Edo state.

    Here are the APC, PDP, and LP candidates for Edo 2024 election

    Senator Monday Okpebholo (APC)

    Senator Monday Okpebholo (Edo Central) was on Friday, February 23, declared the winner of the Edo All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship direct primary election.

    Cross River Governor Bassey Otu, who was the Chairman of the Edo APC shadow poll, made the declaration after collating the results from the 18 local government areas.

    Okpebholo polled 12,433 votes to defeat the representative of the Ovia constituency in the House of Representatives, Dennis Idahosa, who scored 6,541 votes.

    Senator Monday Okpebholo is a Nigerian politician who represents Edo Central Senatorial district at the National Assembly.

    He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    He hails from Uromi, Esan North-East local government area of Edo state

    He completed his primary education at Uromi Primary School and his secondary education at Uromi Grammar School.

    He had his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics at the University of Benin in 1986 and a master’s in Public Administration in 1990 still from Uniben.

    Okpebholo was born on June 12, 1962.

    He is a devout Christian married with children.

    Asue Ighodalo (PDP)

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Edo State Asue Ighodalo on Thursday emerged as the governorship candidate for the November 12 poll.

    Ighodalo polled 577 votes to beat other aspirants-Anselm Ojezua, Arthur Esele, Osaro Onaiwu, Martins Uhomoibhi, Hadizat Umoru and Felix Akhabue, who scored zero.

    The Chief Returning Officer of the Edo PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State announced Ighodalo as a candidate.

    Asue Ighodalo is a Nigerian lawyer.

    He is from Okaigben, Ewohimi, Esan South East LG, Edo State, Nigeria.

     

     

    Ighodalo is a product of King’s College, Lagos.

    He obtained B.Sc degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan in 1981, an LL.B from the London School of Economics and Political Science (1984) and a B.L from the Nigerian Law School, Lagos (1985).

    Ighodalo is happily married to Ifeyinwa, and they are blessed with children.

    Olumide Akpata (LP)

    Olumide Akpata was declared the winner of the Edo Labour Party (LP) Governorship primary election on Friday.

    Akpata scored 316 votes to win the exercise held in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Friday.

    The deputy governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, who is the returning officer for the poll made the declaration after collating the results.

    Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata was born on October 7, 1972 in Edo state.

    He is a Nigerian legal practitioner and politician.

    He obtained a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Benin, Edo state in 1992 and was called to the bar in 1993.

    He served in the National Youth Service Corps in Kano State.

    He was the immediate past National Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

    He was a senior partner and the Head of the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group at Templar’s law firm in Nigeria until his resignation on 31 August 2023 to enable him to pursue partisan politics.

    He became the first non-Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 28 years to be elected president of the Nigerian Bar Association in July 2020.

    Akpata formally entered the political arena on Thursday, August 1st, 2023, solidifying his commitment to public service by joining the ranks of the Labour Party (Nigeria).
