It was a sad moment for Nigerians during preparations for the Presidential primary election of the All progressives Congress (APC) as Isah Baba-Buji, the Jigawa APC delegate dies after reportedly slumping in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Tuesday.
His death was confirmed by the APC spokesman in Jigawa, Bashir Kundu. Speaking to Newsmen, he admitted that the delegate was pronounced dead after he slumped, shortly before he had planned to head to the venue of the party convention.
According to Mr Kundu, the late Baba-Buji’s remains was already being prepared to be conveyed back to his native Jigawa State for burial rites.
The late Baba-Buji, until his death, was the Vice Chairman for Jigawa Southwest. He was also one of the 61 delegates from Buji Local Government Area.
The APC Chairman of Jigawa East, Abdullahi Ango also confirmed that the late Jigawa APC delegate died at about 3.30pm on Tuesday, a little before he was supposed to attend the convention. Describing his death as sudden, he stated that the deceased had already eaten and performed his afternoon prayers before he passed on.
Hear him: ‘He had no history of any ailment. He just slumped and died instantly.’ He also went on to dismiss reports that Burji died at the Eagle Square. He went on to describe the late delegate as a ‘good and honest’ person.
His words: ‘He was the leader of the Jigawa delegation until he died. May the Almighty Allah repose his soul and grant him Aljannat Firdaus.’
Nigerian Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has mourned the late APC delegate as news of his death spread. He took to his verified Twitter page where he mourned the late politician.
According to a statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo has expressed his sadness over the demise of the Jigawa delegate.
On behalf of the Vice President, he stated: ‘VP Osinbajo is saddened by the news of the death this afternoon, in Abuja, of Alhaji Isa Baba-Buji, 61, one of her APC delegates from Buji Local Government, Jigawa State.’
‘He extends his heartfelt condolence to his family, associates, government and people of the state and prays his soul rests in peace.’
Contrary to news reports that the late Jigawa APC delegate died while he was having breakfast, including other reports that he died of heart failure, the Jigawa State APC Public Relations Officer, Bashir Kundu told newsmen that he slumped at the Jigawa State Liaison office in Abuja but died while being rushed to the hospital. He also stated that by the time they arrived at the hospital, he was confirmed dead.’
Even though the exact cause of his death seems to be shrouded in controversy, reports have it that the deceased was taken to the hospital by a member of the House of Representatives, Engr. Magaji Da’u Aliyu, who represents Birnin Kudu/Buji Federal Constituency.
