The founder of the Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to build a strong legacy that could determine an accurate succession after his tenure as president of Nigeria.
Daily Trust reports that Bakare said a major responsibility has been bestowed on President Buhari to institutionalise systems of accurate succession that will build and sustain Nigeria that is so desired by all.
Bakare also condemning the harassment of journalists and activists warned that using force against citizens is petty.
Citing the illegal arrest and detention of the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Bakare said: “Mustering the apparatus of government force against those who criticize the government by the words of their mouths or the strokes of their pens is nothing but a petty path of vengeance that will eventually boomerang.”
Further stating that he will never support evil deeds by any government in power, the vibrant pastor said any attempt to stifle free speech through the proposed social media regulation should be jettisoned.
“I will not support the violation of people’s rights. Anything that is against the rule of law, I will not support it. It will never happen to me, that is like attacking my own constituency, it doesn’t matter whose ox is gored,” Bakare said.
Meanwhile, Pastor Bakare had met with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Monday, December 30.
Bakare on meeting with the president immediately went into a closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s number one man. Although the meeting between the president and Pastor Bakare lasted for over 30 minutes, the fiery preacher also declined to speak on the outcome of his meeting when approached by State House correspondents.
