The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma C.Soludo, has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to rid the state of fake pastors, fraudulent native doctors and individuals using religion and superstition to deceive unsuspecting citizens.

Speaking, during a town hall meeting held in Awka, Monday, he spoke extensively on the need to restore morality, discipline, and hard work as the foundation of a better society.

According to Governor Chukwuma C. Soludo, the ongoing operation against fake spiritual leaders is already yielding positive results, as several suspects have reportedly been arrested and are currently in custody assisting security agencies with useful information. He explained that many of these individuals manipulate vulnerable people by preaching false doctrines centred on instant wealth and ‘salvation without the cross,’ thereby encouraging laziness and moral decline among young people.

Governor Chukwuma C.Soludo stressed that his administration remains committed to building a new Anambra State founded on truth, productivity, and responsible living. He noted that the government would not tolerate practices that encourage criminality, deception, or exploitation under the guise of religion or spirituality.

He called on religious leaders across the state to rise to the responsibility of shaping society positively, stating that  churches and faith-based organizations must focus on promoting values such as honesty, sacrifice, integrity, and hard work instead of materialism and false promises of overnight riches.

According to him, societal transformation can only happen when both government and religious institutions work together toward a common purpose.

Governor Soludo also highlighted the impact of the Anambra Burial Law introduced by his administration. He explained that the law was designed to reduce the excessive spending and flamboyant displays often associated with burials in the state, noting that many families had suffered unnecessary financial pressure because of expensive burial ceremonies and social expectations.

He maintained that the law is helping to restore dignity and moderation by encouraging citizens to focus on ‘befitting living and decent burial’ instead of wasteful extravagance. He added that the reforms are gradually changing public attitudes and helping families avoid avoidable debts and emotional stress.

Soludo reiterated that the vision of a new Anambra is already taking shape and would continue to focus on eliminating social vices and deceptive practices. He said his government is strengthening campaigns that promote diligence, enterprise, and legitimate means of livelihood, especially among the youth.

‘The action forms part of our mission to build a new Anambra free from deception and social vices. We remain committed to keeping the state clean and clear of practices that weaken our social values,’ the governor stated.

Governor Chukwuma C.Soludo further urged political leaders across Nigeria to demonstrate courage in implementing reforms that would benefit society in the long run. He emphasized that true leadership requires making difficult but necessary decisions that promote justice, discipline, and sustainable development.

He also commended the Catholic Diocese of Awka for its role in promoting the common good and standing firmly against societal decay. According to the governor, faith-based institutions must continue to partner with government in rebuilding moral values and guiding young people toward a more responsible future.

The renewed crackdown, many observers believe, signals the determination of Governor Chukwuma C. Soludo to create a safer, morally upright, and progressive Anambra State.
