Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf Commences Work as he Revokes Govt Hospital Sold by Predecessor, Demolishes Illegal Structures on Govt Property

Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has hit the ground running by revoking the sale of the Hasiya Bayero Pediatric Hospital, as well as the Governor’s Lodge, which was allegedly sold by the immediate past government of the state.

Speaking through a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary of the Kano State Government, Sanusi Dawakin -Tofa, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stated his displeasure on how the past government sold those places to their cabals for their own selfish interests.

He vowed to reclaim every property that was either mismanaged or sold illegally by the past government just as he promised during his election campaigns.

His words: ‘As promised during electioneering processions, we will not relent in reclaiming public properties either mismanaged or sold via shoddy deal and what was reclaimed would be judiciously utilize for the benefit of people of the state.’

‘I am at this juncture announcing the revoking of the sales of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric hospital and the Governor’s lodge at Kwankwasiyya city that is hosting the office of Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON). The health facility should be renovated and revert to its operations of health care delivery to children’, the statement read.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf visited the two sites on inspection with a delegation of top government officials, where he directed that the health facility should be renovated with immediate effect and reverted to a specialist hospital that will see to the medical needs of hundreds of thousands of children of Kano State and beyond.

Also, in his bid to fulfill his electioneering promises to the people of Kano state, during his campaigns, Governor Yusuf also already began cracking down illegal structures built on government property and demolishing them.

He personally led the team that oversaw the demolition exercise in the company of the Kano State Commissioner of Police,  Muhammed Gumel. During the demolition drive, a structure housing 90 shops was demolished around the racecourse area in the Nasarawa GRA. The structure was razed to the ground and remains the very first demolition implemented by Yusuf’s administration after he was sworn in on May 29, 2023, shortly after being declared Governor-elect on March 18 2023.

Governor Yusuf also issued a strict directive to put a stop to construction ongoing  in the Hajj camp area developers. He also gave his approval for mobile courts to expedite the prosecution of individuals who are involved in snatching of phones in and around the state, so that they will collaborate with the Special Joint Task Force created to make sure that offenders got swift legal proceedings.

The newly sworn-in governor has also restored streetlights in the major streets of the Kano metropolis,  eight years after the state experienced darkness in those areas and stated that it was a strategy adopted by his government to fight criminal activities, especially robbery and other forms of misconduct that plagued the city.

He vowed to secure the safety and well-being of Kano residents  by eliminating all criminal hideouts and making way for an environment that will foster peace and development in the state.
