The Federal Government laptop loan programme is now open for applications, giving eligible Nigerians the opportunity to obtain laptops, smartphones and tablets through an affordable consumer credit scheme aimed at improving digital access across the country.
The initiative, known as the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
It is also designed to encourage the use of locally assembled digital devices while supporting digital skills development.
As applications begin, prospective beneficiaries are expected to meet several requirements before they can be considered for the federal government laptop loan.
One of the first requirements is the applicant’s state of residence. Every applicant must indicate the state where they currently reside by selecting one of Nigeria’s 36 states or the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). According to the organisers, this information will help profile applicants and ensure effective nationwide implementation of the programme.
Applicants are also expected to provide details about their employment status. The application form allows participants to identify themselves as salary earners, freelancers, self-employed professionals, business owners, students, job seekers or members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). While not compulsory, applicants may also provide their monthly income by choosing from several income categories ranging from below ₦100,000 to more than ₦1 million.
Another important condition for accessing the federal government laptop loan is participation in an approved digital skills programme. For the current phase, the scheme is available only to individuals enrolled in the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.
However, the application portal also features other well-known digital training organisations, including Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub. Their inclusion suggests that participants from these programmes could become eligible as the initiative expands in future phases.
Applicants must also specify the type of digital device they intend to obtain. The available options include a smartphone, laptop or tablet. In addition, they are required to explain how the device will support their activities.
The application allows users to select one or more purposes, including learning, professional certification, remote work, software development, freelancing, business growth, content creation and other educational needs. This information helps determine how the requested device will contribute to the applicant’s personal or professional development.
Before submitting the form, applicants must certify that every detail provided is accurate. They are also required to authorise CREDICORP and its partners to verify the information supplied and agree to be contacted regarding the outcome of their application. This verification process forms an essential part of the assessment for the federal government laptop loan.
Applicants are equally expected to indicate how they heard about the programme. Available options include the 3MTT initiative, social media, friends or family, schools, employers, Google Search or other sources.
To apply, interested Nigerians should visit the official C.L.I.C.K.D. application portal, complete the required information and click the “I’m Interested” button to begin the registration process.
