The All Progressive Congress (APC), has raised alarms over plans of the People Democratic Party (PDP), to set the Edo state office of The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), on fire and they appealed strongly and passionately to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu to strongly beef up security around the office, ahead of the gubernatorial elections which is a few days away in Edo state.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, who expressed this concern in a telephone conversation with Daily Sun, also accused the PDP of intentions and plans to bring in political thugs from Rivers and Delta states, and equally embark on massive vote buying, in their desperation to win the gubernatorial elections at all cost.
The APC party spokesperson claimed that PDP are so desperate to win because they know they have fielded a weak candidate as such, are planning a repeat of what transpired at Ondo state by burning the office of the Independent Electoral Commission INEC.
The APC’s Publicity secretary insisted that they are battle ready to match whatever theatrics and ploy the PDP’s camp put up in order to have a free and fair election.
He however reintegrated the fears of the APC stating that “Part of our fears is the plans of the PDP to bring in political thugs from neighboring states. You know PDP will always deploy thugs in any elections in their desperation to win. As I speak with you now, the PDP has perfected plans to import thugs from Rivers and Delta states.
He however stood firm to refute the rumours and insinuations that APC are also planning to do the same, by importing thugs as well. He stated thus; “let’s reason together, where are we going to get the thugs from when the PDP is in charge of all the South South States?”
There are however information and reports as well that a thousand policemen have been deployed by elder states man, Tinubu from Lagos into Edo state with a plan to observe and monitor the governorship elections. Sources though, have not confirmed the authenticity of this report and purpose of this gesture.
Many are of the opinion however, that the whole political fiasco we are witnessing today are laced with basically individuals and various partisan’s interest and agendas be it a positive or negative one.
It is therefore of utmost importance for voters to be aware and observant of their surroundings and be responsible citizens when they go out to vote. They are also to be conscious and take personal security measures to ensure they are not caught up in the political charades and crossfire of the PDP and APC camps.
