The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has debunked widespread reports suggesting the presence of Ebola in Nigeria, assuring the public that there are currently no confirmed cases of the deadly viral disease anywhere in the country.
The clarification was made in a statement shared through the agency’s official X account on Saturday, following growing concerns fueled by unverified claims circulating both online and offline.
According to the NCDC, the reports alleging outbreaks of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in parts of Nigeria are entirely false and should be disregarded.
The agency stressed that Nigerians should rely only on information released through verified government and public health channels, warning that misinformation can create unnecessary panic and confusion among citizens.
The statement partly stated: ‘We wish to clarify that there are currently no confirmed cases of Ebola in Nigeria. Any report stating otherwise is false.’
The public health agency further emphasized that it remains fully committed to protecting citizens from threats of infectious diseases, through continuous surveillance and preparedness efforts. It assured that health officials across the country are maintaining a high level of vigilance to ensure that any potential health emergency is detected and addressed promptly.
Addressing concerns surrounding Ebola in Nigeria, the NCDC explained that it has strengthened monitoring systems nationwide and continues to work closely with relevant health authorities to prevent possible outbreaks. The agency added that its surveillance networks remain active and capable of responding swiftly to any emerging public health risks.
The clarification comes at a time that there is increasing speculation on social media platforms, where several posts falsely claimed that Ebola cases had been recorded in certain locations across the country. These reports quickly gained attention, prompting concerns among members of the public.
However, the NCDC has reassured Nigerians that there is no evidence to support such claims. It urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified information and instead seek updates from trusted sources whenever concerns arise about disease outbreaks or health emergencies.
The agency also highlighted the importance of public cooperation in combating misinformation, noting that false reports can undermine public health efforts and create unnecessary fear. It encouraged Nigerians to verify information before sharing it with others.
As discussions about Ebola in Nigeria continue to trend online, the NCDC reiterated that it is actively monitoring health developments within and outside the country. It assured the public that all necessary preventive measures remain in place to safeguard public health.
The agency directed Nigerians to follow its official communication platforms, including X, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, for accurate and timely updates on disease surveillance and outbreak management.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the NCDC pledged to continue providing prompt information whenever public health issues arise. The agency maintained that Nigerians can remain confident in the country’s disease monitoring systems and should disregard any false claims suggesting that Ebola has been confirmed within the nation’s borders.
