The Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Gani Adams, has warned the factional leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Simon Ekpa, to keep plans of his sit-at-home activities away from yoruba land.
Recall that Simon Ekpa indicated that the upcoming sit-at-home protest being enforced in the Southeast will also be extended to Lagos state as a part of the actions to demand for the release of their embattled leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is still in the den of the Department of State Security (DSS).
His words: ‘Biafrans in Lagos should get ready to be part of the demand to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We are coming to Lagos after the two-week-long sit at home.’
‘It is time to show your solidarity to this call for justice. Biafrans in Lagos will lock down. The consultation will start soon’, his tweeted.
In reaction, Gani Adams described the sit-at-home order as uncalled for and counter-productive in any state and also warned the IPOB factional leader, Simon Ekpa, to desist from repeating the mistakes made in the 1970s, aside did no one any good.
He further warned that the public had nothing to do with the Southeast and therefore, it was preposterous for ‘outsiders to indicate or impose their agenda on people of other regions who they cohabit with as residents.’
Hear him: ‘I can’t go to the South East now and say I want to decide for the people of that region. So, it is not possible to import the South-East agenda into Yoruba land,. It would be counter-productive. We advise him (Ekpa) to drop that idea.’
‘He should not try that. The South West is not Biafra Republic. Any attempt to impose the Biafra Republic agenda will be resisted. He should desist from repeating the mistake of the 1970s. He should be very, very careful.’
‘Although I don’t know him and I have not spoken to him, he should not bring unnecessary tension to Yoruba land. We will not accept that’, he maintained.
Meanwhile, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo has advised President Bola Tinubu that the best way to shut Ekpa up is, by releasing Nnamdi Kanu from the DSS custody.
According to the Spokesperson of the Igbo group, Alex Ogbonnia, Kanu’s release will ease the tension in the southeast, because nobody will have any more reasons to cause mayhem in the country. He further stated that the social inequality of the southeast and Kanu’s arrest were the major factors that led to the agitation in the southeast and that his release will give Ekpa no excuses to be problematic in the region.
Hear him: ‘We have been consistent on the release of Nnamdi Kanu. We believe that the problem of what happened to Nnamdi Kanu has contributed to the agitation. What is happening in the South East now is the manifestation of the social injustices meted on the South East.’
‘Nnamdi Kanu issue will require a diplomatic political solution and not a matter of charging him to court, leaving him in prison or being incarcerated; rather such will lead to more clamoring and affects the situation.’
