Former Special Assistant to Nigeria ex-president Goodluck Jonathan and major critic of the President Buhari administration, Reno Omokri has condemned in strong terms, the defection of former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, FFK, from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
A few hours after Fani-Kayode’s defection to the APC, Omokri posted on his verified Facebook page that FFK betrayed the Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho and his Biafran counterpart, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
He explained that on several occasions before FFK’s defection, he had flaunted his friendship with Sunday Igbohon and Nnamdi Kanu, while attacking the Buhari government for holding them captive.
This was why Nigerians posted his picture taken on the day he visited Igbohon and condemned in strong terms, Buhari’s actions against both Igboho and Kanu.
Omokri wondered why FFK would rejoin the APC after his constant open attack to the Federal government, saying that he acted like Judas iscariot because, both Nnamdi Kanu and Igboho confided in him but now that they both ended up being in Buhari’s trap, he goes to the camp and joins Buhari’s APC.
He referred to FFK’s defection as a typical example of playing politics without shame as he literally returned to his vomit after openly condemning the APC and swearing he will rather die than leave the PDP.
He referred to Buhari as an inveterate and incurable nepotistic tribalist and worst thing to happen to Nigeria, just like FFK has often admitted publicly, wondering why FFK would kowtow to him after making such statements before Nigerians.
His words: ‘Buhari is the worst thing to happen to Nigeria, and APC is a gathering of all that is wrong in Nigeria. May I never be in a situation where I will have to return to my vomit because my stomach is empty. God I beg you. I beg you. In Christ’s Name!’
Recall that hours after his defection, he talked at length in a Channels TV interview, where he confirmed that he used to speak against President Buhari but now, it was worth knowing his kind of person.
He claimed that they used to verbally attack the president since 2015 but that he was ignorant of the personality of Buhari, saying that he used to know the president from the outside but he was glad that he now knew him from the inside. He also spoke on the need for peace, unity and progress.
According to him, there’s a time for everyone to condemn and criticize but there is also a time to come together and work together and seek ways to cohabit in peace and achieve growth and progress.
It is important to note that Femi Fani-kayode is in the habit of criticizing people when they defect to other parties just like he did to Musiliu Obanikoro and others who defected earlier. His countenance however appears to have changed.
Five years ago, the former Aviation Minister vowed that he would only rejoin the APC over his dead body which is why Nigerians have openly criticized his recent defection.
Recall also that in 2019, Fani-Kayode stated that APC was darkness and as such, he will rather die than join them. When he was questioned during a Channel TV interview on his comment about dying rather than rejoining the APC, he said that joining the APC was now the way forward no matter what people might think about it.
He claimed that APC was a liberal party and that he believed the party had changed and that president Buhari had accommodated the change, claiming that if the APC leadership had not changed, he won’t have joined them.
The PDP has however reacted to his defection through the National publicity secretary, Kola Ologbodinyan in a BBC interview, oml Friday said the party knew him well and that his defection showed he wasn’t committed in the first place. The PDP simply wish him well in his new home.
