PDP NEC defers decision on zoning - Tribune Online

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has announced Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri as the Chairman of her 2021 National Convention Organising Committee, while Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state was appointed chairman of the Zoning committee.
This was made known to the general public during a briefing with newsmen, Thursday, by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan as he educated them on the resolutions reached by the party’s National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.
The PDP publicity secretary, Ologbondiyan, explained that the NEC came together to rub minds on critical issues affecting the party, saying that the NEC deliberated on the composition of its National Convention planning committee and also the Zoning committee to zone National Working Committee, NWC offices.
At the end of the meeting, the Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri was officially made Chairman, PDP 2021 National Convention Organizing Committee, Bayelsa state governor, Sen Douye Diri was made Deputy Chairman, while Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde was made Secretary of the committee, said Ologbondiyan.
On the part of the Zoning Committee, that National Executive Council approved Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to take up the mantle as Chairman; Benue state governor Samuel Ortom as his deputy, while Deputy governor of Zamfara state, Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed was made the Committee secretary.
While addressing the council, Ologbondiyan urged the committee  to work extra hard to see that the National convention was successfully carried out.
He also disclosed that the NEC received the report of the committee led by Senator David Mark, intervening in some issues concerning the leadership challenges that was plaguing the party while assuring that Mark’s committee gave their word that efforts were being made to resolve all court matters.
He went on to appreciate Nigerians for the confidence they placed in the People’s Democratic Party and also the solidarity and support they have anonymously shown the party at a time like this.
The NEC appreciated the efforts of the National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, BoT, the PDP Governors’ Forum, the National Assembly Caucus and all other stakeholders, for their efforts in tackling the challenges faced by the party.
In reaction to questions raised about the party zoning  the chairmanship position, Ologbondiyan assured that it was not discussed but that the committee in charge would handle it.
He stated further that even though there were no fixed date for the next meeting, the October 30th date for the National Convention for the party remains sacrosanct.
In his remarks, the PDP Acting National Chairman, Elder Yemi Akinwonmi urged the NEC to look into the recommendations towards the party’s National Convention and give their approval.
On his part, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibrin was positive that the party will win the 2023 general election in a united front, while the Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state drummed his allegiance and that of the Governors’ Forum for the PDP in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election and the National convention.
Tambuwal maintained that party leaders should close ranks by forming a United PDP in order to rescue the country in 2023.
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar congratulated the party leaders for breaking barriers and remaining as one, saying that it was only PDP that could go through such challenges without breaking up.
He urged party members to continue to remain steadfast while upholding the tenets of democracy, while also advising the council to work hard and reclaim the PDP in Anambra.
The meeting was attended by Governors, former governors, NWC, BoT members and former Ministers.
