In her bid to unveil and celebrate excellence in Africa, My media Africa merged with a Tech Summit to organize a leadership award ceremony in a rich event at the Sheraton Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos where she honoured some Africans who have gone the extra mile to carve out a niche for themselves in their chosen areas.
The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone who became a Professor of Pharmacy at the young age of 37, received the award of Most Distinguished Vice Chancellor in Nigeria.
According to My Media Africa, the Convener of the African illustrious awards, the decision was reached by a team of seasoned professionals of different backgrounds who took their time to pay attention to details in order to see those who are making great impact but seemingly not recognized.
According to him, mainstream Media takes delight in focusing largely on all the wrong things about Africa.
He noted: ‘In the case of Prof. Esimone, he was unanimously named the Most Outstanding Vice Chancellor of Nigerian University by the team. What Prof. Esimone has done in Unizik in two years and silently, was of immense surprise to the team. He has delivered several infrastructure projects, provided an improved learning environment, created a better system of accountability, shown leadership and excellence, without making any noise, whatsoever, about it.’
Former Olympic medalist, ACP Chioma Ajunwa was also honoured. She was personally in attendance to received her award.
In her excitement, she promised to do more for public service.
Iconic Nigerian footballer and Super Eagles former Captain, Joseph Yobo was also recognized and honoured.
He was represented by his wife, Mrs Adaeze Yobo, who received the award on his behalf.
The African cup of Nations 2013 winner expressed his joy over the part played by My Media Africa in changing the narrative and thanked God for the recognition.
The unveiling of the June-July 2021 edition of My Media Africa Magazine with its rich content on African entrepreneurship and existing opportunities for tech enthusiasts in Africa, formed part of the highlights of the event.
Award-winning sprinter, Chioma Ajunwa was charged with doing the honours of unveiling the glossy print magazine dedicated to showcasing success stories from Africa to the world.
Notable dignitaries at the event include, Chief Poly Emenike, the Chairman of Neros Pharmaceuticals, Prince Christopher Nebe, the Chief Executive Officer of Pharmatex, among many others.
Nollywood celebrities, the Lagos branch of UNIZIK Alumni Association, representatives of DAAR Communication were all in attendance.
Numerous startups, tech innovations, entrepreneurs and the Pidgin Bible translator were equally honoured at the event.
An Auto Care facility based in the Anambra state capital, Awka, known as High-Tech Garage was not left out.
The Nigerian Army Band lit up the event with beautiful tunes and the ‘Jennifer’ crooner, Guchi was also there to thrill guests with her songs.
Great personalities from all spheres were in attendance, including Georgia Ibe, Queen Okam, Peter Elemuo, Nollywood star, Yul Edochie and his lovely wife, with so many others.
My Media Africa by this recognition of our own has noted that this honour to deserving people will go a long way to build an impacted culture of excellence, innovation, tech solutions and skillful leadership that will take a good look at Africa’s developmental challenges and address them.
