Nigerian political orientation is such that most politicians, weather elected or appointed has one singular objective in mind which is to grab or confiscate as much as one can acquire because it is oftentimes seen as an opportunity of a lifetime which seldomly comes around.
Due to the nature of the above preconceived mentality most persons within the federation who are privilege to get a political appointment or position are often under pressure from friends and families to deliver their own self centered agenda and thus neglect the interest of the masses and that of the common good.
This process therefore explains why many political leaders would do anything to manipulate votes to either ascend a political position, or to retain power at all cost.
There is therefore the need to change and educate the political mindsets of most Nigerian citizens and especially those who are deeply involved in position of leadership and power.
Few days ago news sources revealed that a former minister education in the person of Oby Ezekwesili, has disclosed that, if politics is not fixed, there cannot be good governance in Nigeria.
These statements was made by Ezekwesili while speaking at an occasion with the pioneer students of the School of Politics, Policy and Governance (SPPG) recently.
According to her she opined that it is grossly erroneous to assume that politics has no connection to honesty and good governance, insisting that infact both of them are designed to be dependent on each other for efficiency.
In addition Ezekwesili stated that the standard world-class curriculum set by the school which is globally recognise all oversee world-class curriculum of the school would enable the students to break the norm of poor leadership.
“The point is that without our fixing politics, it is totally irrational to imagine that we will have good governance. And to those of us who in time past always thought that we just needed to do something about governance without caring about politics completely missed the ball.
“We missed the ball because politics is the foundation on which governance is conducted. Without politics in democracy, you cannot have governance. The quality of your politics will determine the quality of your governance.
“We should worry about people who, knowing that the citizens do not see the link between politics and governance, therefore provide leadership that is of no degree in excellence.
“That lack of leadership that provides and produces good outcomes ends up being a dominant variant of leadership that spreads across our continent. And so our continent is held down by poor leadership.
“We have designed a world-class curriculum that will enable you to have the seismic mindset shift that is necessary to destroy the dominant culture of subordinating the public good for private interest.”
Mrs Oby further encouraged the students not to take for granted their classes as this would go a very long way in helping to shape the new orientation and create an impression of a g genuine mindset and willingness to serve their father’s land with love and pride.
It is not worthy to state that the school is an ideology of the Fix Politics initiative designed to transform governance in Nigeria and the rest of Africa.
Hopefully its intended aims and objectives as it relate to leadership in Africa and particularly Nigerian is achieved.
