The former governor will however, make an official declaration of his interest in running for the Nigeria Presidential Election 2023 to the general public on Friday.
The rumour about Peter Obi having the interest to run for presidency has been making the rounds for quite some time and he has so far denied being interested in any such aspiration. This is the first time he spoke publicly about having the intention to be in the race for presidency.
He further stated: ‘We are all Nigerians and we know how things are shared in the country. Many people have called to ask my position on this matter and my answer then was that I needed to consult widely’.
‘The reason why I called you, therefore, is to officially inform you that I am aspiring for the President of Nigeria in 2023’.
‘After a careful study of the country, I noticed that we are too divided and I promise to lead a united and secure Nigeria to be able to attract foreign investments’.
‘The Nigeria I will lead will create jobs, boost our economy, improve education. If I have the opportunity, I will turn around the country for the better’, he averred.
The former Vice Presidential candidate further stated that he had plans to move Nigeria from a consuming nation to a productive nation, stressing that he wanted all parts of the country to be secured. He made it clear that his aspiration was not just to get a political position, but to render service to Nigeria.
He wrapped up his submission to the Monarchs with this assurance: ‘I will contest for the President of Nigeria on the platform of the PDP’.
Recall that Mr Peter Gregory Obi, born July 19, 1961 is a Nigerian politician and businessman who hails from Agulu in Anambra State, Nigeria.
He was the former Governor of Anambra State under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from 2006 to 2014 when he handed over to Willie Obiano. Seven months after that however, he defected to the PDP and has since then remained a staunch member of the party.
During the Nigerian Presidential election in in 2019, he contested for position of Vice President to Atiku Abubakar under the aegis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obi’s declaration to contest for the Nigerian presidential election 2023 came at a time when the clamour for a Nigerian President from Igbo land is at its peak. So many people from the South East of Nigeria are excited about his declaration to run for the number one seat in the country.
