The former deputy governor of Ondo state Ali Olanusi has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with details of massive corruption being committed in the Olusegun Mimiko’s administration.

In a petition to Ibrahim Larmode, the EFCC chairman, Olanusi urged the anti-graft agency to open full investigation into the finances of Ondo state under Mimiko.

The ex-deputy governor who is now with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and in court challenging the constitutionality of his impeachment, described Governor Mimiko as “corruption personified.”

Denying the allegation levelled against him that led to his impeachment in April, Olanusi appealed to the people of the state to take their destiny in their hands and insist on the “recovery of the stolen and looted funds,” Daily Independent reports.

Olanusi accused Mimiko of forging and falsifying OSOPADEC Appropriation Law 2014, which led to the embezzlement of N18billion kept for the development of riverine and oil-producing communities.

He also alleged that his ex-boss forged and falsified the 2014 Re-Ordered Budget, cover his tracks in the misappropriation of N6.7billion.

Other allegations against Mimiko reported by Olanusi include: alleged falsification of the House of Assembly resolution authorising the borrowing of N2.4billion for the Wealth Creation Agency, (WECA), diversion of money meant for the Residency Card Project by the State Information Technology Agency (SITA); manipulation of the N27billion bond and diversion of its proceeds without the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC)’s approval and falsification of records of the House of Assembly on his impeachment.

Olanusi called on the EFCC to investigate and prosecute all persons involved in the manufacturing of these illegal activities which has caused financial harm to the people of the state, especially the oil producing communities.

Reacting shortly after, Kayode Akinmade, the Ondo state commissioner for information, described Olanusi’s allegations as baseless, and wondered why the EFCC was not being allowed to investigate the petition.

He said: “The EFCC is an agency of government with the statutory responsibility of investigating corrupt allegations. Instead of jumping the gun, Olanusi should allow the agency do its job, except he is telling the world that the agency is not competent or reliable enough to handle his petitions without any bias.

“The Ondo state government wonders if Olanusi’s expectation is that the graft agency should ride like an invading army, arresting and detaining everybody in Ondo state on account of his petitions.

“We hope he is not suggesting that the EFCC should become an appendage of his new party and a tool in the hands of the ruling government to threaten the opposition.”

Olanusi was impeached two weeks after the general elections by the House of Assembly over alleged gross misconduct and replaced by Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo. This was shortly after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
