Controversial Buhari supporter and human rights activist, Mr Kenechukwu Okeke’s death in Anambra state has raised some concerns, since it was reported that he was matcheted by about seven young men in broad day light in the state.
The young Okeke who has the penchant to drag media outfits (including CNN) and celebrities to court, for defaming the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, was brutally killed in Nkpor, close to Onitsha and matcheted right in the presence of his wife, Mrs Blessing Odinakachukwu Okeke and his little daughter.
His wife however informed the press that she was aware that her late husband, Kenechukwu Okeke’s death was perpetrated by their tenant, whom she simply called Chiadiobi.
According to her report to the press, she stated that their tenant, Chiadiobi moved out of their house without informing either herself or her husband. Then, he demanded to be refunded the outstanding amount for two months of his rent, but the late Okeke refused, notifying him that he should have informed him he was moving out which was the standard thing to do.
She confirmed that her husband was not at home on the day that Chiadiobi came to demand a refund of the outstanding balance of his rent, to which she blamed him for moving out of the house without informing them, and expressly told him that the money will not be refunded.
She said he made threats about dealing with them and teaching her husband a lesson. She then called her husband and informed him of Chiadiobi’s utterances, while advising him not to confront him since he  was popularly believed to be a bad boy.
He had to report the matter to the DSS and the Police where he was made to sign an undertaking. Unfortunately, it didn’t stop him from terrorizing the family, even till Kenechukwu Okeke’s death.
Her words: ‘One day, he came to our house and my husband confronted him, without knowing that he had many boys with him downstairs, and before my husband could do anything, they macheted him, and the fuel we wanted to pour into our gen, they poured it on him and lit him up, and that was how my husband died’.
‘That day was Sunday and not everyone was around, and the few people around tried to quench the fire and also stop it from burning our house, and later we took him to hospital in Enugu, and that was how he died’.
She added that since since Kenechukwu Okeke’s death occured in October, her family has been left with the responsibility of arranging for his burial and she found it very painful, surprising and shocking that no organization has made any move, whatsoever to take up his matter.
She lamented that what really broke her heart was that the person behind Kenechukwu Okeke’s death is still in their neighborhood bragging about how he dealt with him. As if that wasn’t enough,  he started confronting Okeke’s mother.
Hear her: ‘He even recently confronted my husband’s mother, warning her that he heard that she is taking the matter up, and was warning her to be careful. The boy is still free, going around and without remorse, and we are just left alone to do the arrangements of the burial’.
‘Up till now, he has not been arrested, even though we took him to Police and DSS, and he was made to write an undertaking that he will not disturb us again, but he has finally killed him. I’m not even understanding the police on this matter. I’m confused. The boy is behaving like he is untouchable, and everyone is saying that he is a bad boy and we should be careful. We live in Nkpor, near Onitsha, Tarzan junction’.
Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga has confirmed that the Police is aware of the matter but that they needed time to investigate and get back to the family with the full details of the matter.
The late Okeke was reputed to have supported the Federal government during the EndSARS protest in October 2020 and also for prosecuting celebrities like Davido and Flavour for being in the lead, during the EndSARS protest in different cities in Nigeria. He has also prosecuted Vanguard Newspapers and one of her reporters over a report made by the paper that he was a fake lawyer.
