Former Governor and presidential aspirant Peter Obi has broken his silence following backlash over his wife’s designer bag.
Kemi Filani reported days ago that Margaret Obi came under fire over the expensive Hermes bag she was seen carrying at an airport.
Media personality Daddy Freeze pointed out that Margaret was contradicting Peter Obi’s simple lifestyle. He said the presidential aspirant is honest and humble; however, he doubts the people around him, asking whether they are also prudent.
Defending his wife, Peter said she has her own business and money, and it isn’t his business how she chooses to spend it. He said he doesn’t even know how much his wife’s bags and shoes cost.
Peter noted how his wife used to be far more sophisticated before he became Governor, and as long as she isn’t interfering with his management of public funds, he doesn’t care.
“My wife has her own business and her own money, so what is my business if she buys expensive items with her money? I don’t even know how much the bags and shoes my wife wears cost.
In fact, she is actually a bit less sophisticated now. She used to be far more sophisticated before I became governor. I’m managing public money, and as long as she lives her own life without interfering with my management of public funds, good luck to her.
I didn’t even have an Office of the First Lady while I was governor. I don’t celebrate my own birthday, but I don’t stop people from celebrating. As long as you don’t ask me to pay the birthday bills, I will even attend if you invite me.”
