Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has accused the Buhari led administration that the country is becoming a failed and divided nation.

This statement was made by the Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, while administering a speech which he tagged ”Moving Nigeria away from tipping over”, at a consultative dialogue graced by socio-cultural groups in Abuja recently.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, while expressing his serious concerns and disappointments at the current state of affairs of the country’s economy, said that he has never seen the nation more divided as it is now and that Nigeria as it stands now, is the capital of poverty in the world.

He continued, ” I do appreciate that you all feel sad and embarrassed as most of us feels as Nigerians, the situation we find ourselves in. Today, Nigeria is fast drifting into a failed and badly divided state; economically our country is fast becoming a basket case and poverty capital of the world and socially we are firming up as an unwholesome and insecure Country.”

For the former President, all these manifestations are as a result of the recent mismanagement of our diversities and misappropriation of socio economic development in our country.

Old vaults of anger and wounds which were once hidden and buried in the past are being reopened and renewed.
Drums of war and songs of hatred are on everyone’s lips. Disintegration, separation and accompanying choruses being heard everywhere loud and clear as bitterness is on the minds of every individual.

He further explained that it is only self deluded people who will claim that the country is in a good position or moving in the right direction, or that all is well right now in Nigeria.

In his speech, he went ahead to attack politicians who were already warming up, and making plans and moves for 2023 elections, stating that instead of them to face the problems majority of them had created headlong, they are busy, canvassing for support on how to be re-elected in 2023, by the same people and Nation, whom they have ripped off and put in precarious situation for many years.

He affirmed his belief that, Nigeria is worth saving on the basis of mutuality and reciprocity and that the perfect way to achieve this feat, is through honest and sincere dialogue rather than talking arrogantly and hatefully to each other, as well as pointing accusing fingers and tolling the paths of violence. All these will amount to dangerous self-delusions and destruction especially, for all who sincerely thinks and wants to believe all is well in Nigeria, he said.

He insisted that some persons are so obsessed with 2023, but that he is of the opinion that with deaths, destruction, debt, diseases doubts and suspicion and insecurity everywhere, we need to rebrand and focus on how we can build a positive vibe and foundation to build upon in 2023, and work toward some form of unity of purpose, reasonable security, shared value, true and genuine democratic reforms and practices, inclusiveness and shared society.
