The Concerned Medics Foundation (CMF) has launched an initiative to mobilise physicians, allied health professionals and healthcare champions in the diaspora to contribute expertise, resources and support towards strengthening healthcare delivery across Africa.
Beginning in Nigeria, the Concerned Medics Foundation said the initiative is designed to transform the knowledge and experience of African healthcare professionals abroad into practical interventions that can improve lives and strengthen healthcare systems across the continent.
Operating under the motto, ‘Bridging the Gap,’ the Foundation said its mission is centred on connecting global expertise with local healthcare needs through medical education, professional development, community outreach and support for hospitals and healthcare facilities.
The Foundation said giving back to Africa should go beyond expressions of concern, stressing that meaningful impact requires knowledge sharing, professional service, resources, collaboration and opportunities for healthcare workers and communities.
As part of its programmes, CMF has developed a series of medical masterclasses providing healthcare professionals, trainees and students with opportunities to learn directly from experienced practitioners across different medical specialties.
The educational programmes cover critical areas including surgery, paediatrics and neonatal care, among other fields of medicine. Through the masterclasses, participants are exposed to specialist knowledge, practical experiences and perspectives from practitioners operating in different healthcare systems around the world.
CMF is also using webinars and professional education programmes to expand access to clinical knowledge, mentorship and international perspectives while creating stronger connections between healthcare professionals in Africa and those in the diaspora.
Beyond education and professional development, the Concerned Medics Foundation is taking its intervention into communities through medical outreach programmes.
According to the Foundation, its community initiatives provide healthcare services, medical screening, health education, awareness and compassionate support to people and communities in need.
Recognizing that knowledge and expertise alone cannot address every challenge confronting healthcare systems, CMF also supports hospitals and healthcare facilities with medical equipment, consumables and other essential resources.
According to the Foundation, these contributions are aimed at strengthening frontline medical services and equipping healthcare workers with additional resources to provide quality care to patients.
At the heart of CMF’s mission is a growing movement of African healthcare professionals in the diaspora who are seeking practical ways to give back to the continent by sharing their expertise, experience, networks and resources.
The Foundation said it is developing sustainable partnerships with healthcare professionals, institutions, organisations and communities, with the ambition of expanding its impact from Nigeria to other African countries.
CMF described its approach as an effort to build bridges between knowledge and need, expertise and opportunity, and the African diaspora and the communities they call home.
The Foundation reiterated that it is determined not merely to discuss Africa’s healthcare challenges but to contribute directly towards addressing them through sustained action.
From medical classrooms and webinar platforms to hospitals and community outreach sites, CMF said it will continue working towards bridging healthcare gaps ‘one professional, one hospital, one community, and one life at a time.’
