By Uche AmunikePopular Nigerian musician cum actor, Banky Wellington, popularly known as Banky W’s addiction to pornography and promiscuity has long become a thing of the past since he filled his life with the presence of God.
Speaking during an interview with The Visibility Lunch Hour, the generally loved celebrity stated that in spite of his successful music career, he had always felt empty without Christ.
According to him, even though he seemed like a successful artist in the eyes of the world, deep down, he felt very empty and wretched because he was struggling with different things on a personal basis. He mentioned promiscuity pornography and other real things that people generally struggle with every day of their lives.
He explained how he felt like he was in bondage and stuck at the point of feeling far from God and very separated from God in spite of the money he had made from his musical career, which still didn’t give him happiness.
Hear him: ‘I am grateful for the small success I have experienced in music, in film, in other ventures. But there is what I like to call a God-shaped void inside every man. Until you start to fill that void with God, you’ll find that you will come up short regardless of what success you have or how successful or happy you may seem in the eyes of the world’.
Even though Banky W’s addiction to pornography and promiscuity separated him from God, he is now a pastor who now advises young people to accept Jesus Christ while telling his story about feeling empty in spite of his success as a music star, once upon a time.
His words: ‘in the eyes of the world I was a successful artist but I still felt empty and wretched. There are things I was struggling with on a personal basis. Everything from promiscuity to pornography and real things that people struggle with everyday’.
He urged them to embrace God while they can, in order that their lives will be filled with purpose.
His words: ‘there is an emptiness you feel when you’re disconnected from that source. It is a purpose thing, not a bad thing. It’s a meaningful thing, not about money. That is why you see some of these billionaires pass away on their own account’.
Banky W has made a mark in the film industry, having featured in blockbuster movies like ‘The Return of Jenifa’ in 2011; The Wedding Party in 2016; The Wedding Party 2 in 2017; and Sugar Rush in 2019.
In 2018, Banky declared his intention to run for the Lagos State Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives under the aeges of the Modern Democratic Party formed in 2017. He have ever lost but tried again in February 2019, but lost again to Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In spite of Banky W’s addiction, he was able to overcome them by giving up his life to Christ. He is now married to Nollywood Actress, Adesua Etomi-Wellington and they have one child together.
