Nollywood stars honour late Olu Jacobs at his Night of Tributes (Video)

Nollywood stars came out in large numbers to honour late veteran actor, Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, better known as Olu Jacobs.

Kemi Filani reported on Wednesday, September 16th, that the late veteran’s son had announced his demise, saying he died on the 16th of September, 2026.

On Wednesday evening, a Night of Tributes/Service of Songs was held for the veteran at Glover Memorial Hall, 19 Marina Road, Lagos Island.

As expected, many Nollywood stars graced the occasion to pay their last respects to the Nollywood legend.

The likes of Richard Mofe Damijo, Funke Akindele, Sola Sobowale, Shaffy Bello, Juliet Ibrahim, Desmond Elliot, Jide Kosoko, Adebayo Salami, Femi Adebayo, Kate Henshaw, IK Ogbonna, Emeka Ike, and more were in attendance.

Paying respect to him, Pete Edochie described Olu as his brother, saying he fought like a man and a soldier. He described the deceased as a humorous personality and a peaceful colleague.

Mourning him, Chiwetalu Agu, said Jacobs was more than an actor and was the giant of the industry. He said words fail him as he accepts the painful reality that he is no longer alive.

Kanayo Kanayo had recounted his experience working with the late actor, revealing that the late veteran was never late on set. He said Jacobs brought a world of experience to Nollywood.

Rita Dominic described him as an icon and legend, saying he was a gift to the film industry. She expressed gratitude and said she was privileged to have worked alongside him, learn from him and experience his greatness firsthand.

Yul Edochie said Olu Jacobs’ death hit him hard, noting that Olu was one of the greatest actors from the African continent, a consummate thespian, and a legend. Yul recalled working with him and appreciated the legacy he left behind and the kind words he always gave him.

Emeka Ike shared a video of himself weeping uncontrollably, saying he didn’t get to see the veteran before his passing.

Presidential aspirant Peter Obi said he was saddened by the news of his death, adding that Jacobs represented the excellence of the Nigerian spirit. He said Olu Jacobs exemplified the Nigerian spirit through remarkable contributions to the film and creative industry, and lived a life that demonstrated the power of talent, discipline, professionalism, and dedication to one’s craft.

Recall that in 2021, Olu Jacobs’ wife, Joke Silva opened up on the health condition of the actor, revealing that he is battling dementia.
