The NDC Primary Election has taken a fresh twist as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) distanced itself from results of its recently concluded nationwide primaries circulating on social media, insisting that only the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) is authorised to announce the official outcome of the exercise.

The clarification follows growing public interest in the outcome of the NDC primary election, which was conducted nationwide on May 28 and 29, 2026, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released, Sunday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, urged party members, supporters, and the general public to disregard any results being shared online. According to him, the official results of the NDC primary election remain with the party’s National Executive Council and have not yet been formally announced.

‘The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026,’ the statement said.

According to Director, the NEC is the only body empowered to release the results of the NDC primary election, adding that no unofficial publication should be treated as authentic until the council completes its review and ratification process.

To address issues arising from the primary exercise, the party has scheduled an emergency meeting of its National Executive Council. According to the statement, the decision was made on the directive of the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.

Director disclosed that NEC members have been instructed to arrive in Abuja ahead of a pre-NEC meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, while the main council meeting will hold on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

‘On the order of the National Leader of our party, His Excellency Senator Seriake Dickson, a NEC meeting of the party has been called,’ he stated.

The party explained that the upcoming meeting will provide an opportunity for NEC members to deliberate on the outcome of the NDC primary election, review reports from across the states, and address any concerns or disputes that may have emerged during the exercise.

The NDC also assured stakeholders that the official list of candidates who emerged from the primaries would be made public after the ratification process has been completed. The party noted that the results would be formally announced before the names of successful candidates are submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the statement, party supporters and the wider public will be informed once the approved list of candidates has been finalized and prepared for submission to the electoral body.

The controversy surrounding the unofficial results has fueled speculation among party members and political observers, many of whom are eager to know the outcome of the NDC primary election in several states.

However, the party has maintained that only the NEC can validate and release the final results. Political analysts believe the upcoming meeting will play a crucial role in ensuring transparency, resolving disputes, and strengthening confidence in the party’s internal democratic process ahead of the 2027 elections.
