The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have ‘relaxed’ the ongoing strike action for one week.
This is to allow the tripartite body – government, employers and labour – to agree on a new national wage floor within the next one week.
The organs meeting, which ended at 11.31 am this morning, was jointly presided over by the President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, and his TUC counterpart, Festus Osifo.
After the resolution to relax the ongoing strike to a one-week moratorium, the organised labour then proceeded to the Nicon luxury to continue its engagement with the tripartite committee.
Both unions downed tools on Monday to register their grievances over the hike in electricity tariff and lack of consensus on a new minimum wage.
The development ground activities in critical sectors of the economy with schools, businesses, hospitals, and airports shut. The national grid was also shut down, throwing the nation into darkness.
