The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has congratulated two-time Minister, Chief John Nnia Nwodo Jnr on his recent election as the President-General of Ohaneze.
Speaking through James Eze, his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Governor Obiano applauded Chief Nwodo’s emergence as President-General as a wise decision by the apex socio-cultural group of Ndigbo and one that would be immensely beneficial to the Igbo ethnic nation.
According to him, Chief Nwodo’s emergence as President-General comes with a great deal of hope for Ohaneze in particular and Ndigbo in general because the times demand a very wise, astute and capable leadership for the socio-cultural group.
“Chief Nwodo comes with a lot of experience. He has been around for a while and has had years of important interactions with diverse stakeholders across Igboland and beyond and I have no doubt that he knows what Ndigbo expect from him. I am sure that Ohaneze has made the right choice in him,” Governor Obiano observed.
The Governor further assured Chief Nwodo of his personal support as he settles down to the brass task of leading Ohaneze and charting a new socio-cultural direction for Ndigbo in a very crucial moment of their history.
Chief Nwodo pooled a total of 242 votes to beat Prof. Chiweyite Ejike, a former Vice Chancellor of former Anambra State University of Science and Technology (ASUTECH), his only opponent who garnered 13 votes in the election at the Ohaneze Secretariat in Enugu that drew delegates from the seven Igbo speaking states in Nigeria, including Anambra, Abia, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers States.
Chief Nnia Nwodo’s election brought the tenure of Chief Gary Enwo Nnachi Enwo Igariwey who was elected President-General in January 2013 to an end.
