Anambra Women in Southern California donate medical equipment worth Millions of Naira to the state Government

Anambra State Women Association, Southern California, Los Angeles in the United States of America, has donated hospital equipment worth millions of naira to the state government.

According to the group, the donation was aimed at responding to Governor Willie Obiano’s think home philosophy, in addition to supporting the state government’s efforts at providing quality health care delivery to the citizenry.
Receiving the equipment at the General Hospital, Onitsha, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Josephat Akabuike commended the association for their think home initiative saying that it was in realization of the need to provide health facilities in the nooks and crannies of the state that the state government upgraded to higher standards, the general hospitals in each senatorial district of the state, as well as the five hundred and seventy-three primary healthcare centres across the state.
He reiterated the readiness of the state government to partner and collaborate with groups and individuals in building a viable health system in the state.
Dr Akabuike, announced that plans are underway for the introduction of a comprehensive National Health Insurance Scheme that will carter for the health needs of the citizenry, and assured the group that the equipment will be judiciously used.

Presenting the items, the President of the Association, Mrs Amaka Akudinobi, represented by the Secretary, Mrs Chinenye Ojukwu, stated that the donation was borne out of the need to give back to the society in addition to alleviate the plights of the vulnerable in the society.
Mrs Akudinobi, a lawyer, added that the items presented to the maternity section was aimed at reducing the incidents of infant mortality, recalling that similar donation was made to the Amaku General Hospital in Awka.
In a remark, the Chief Medical Director of the Onitsha General Hospital, Dr Ebelechukwu Anugwu, who thanked the group for their benevolence, called on others to emulate them.
Adding her voice, the Awka branch President, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano Women Forum, Mrs Ethel Eruchalu, said the numerous government interventions and medical missions have aided in no small measure, towards alleviating the sufferings of the masses.
