Friday June 23rd was a big day for young Igbo professionals in the Los Angeles, California area. Umu Igbo Unite, a national organization that was establish to bring young Igbo professionals together to increase cultural awareness and unity, recently chartered a chapter in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles chapter launched in a big way on a BET award weekend. The night started at the Parlor in Hollywood, California for a professional mixer. Igbo faces from all over southern California flooded the event. Guests enjoyed walking the UIU-LA red carpet and taking pictures in front of the step and repeat. Guests mingled and were able to make new friends at the event. Many new faces were present which made the night more exciting. Igbos all the way from the Bay Area to Palm Springs travelled to attend this highly anticipated event. The night opened with board Members Ada Azubuike (Public Relations Officer) and Donald Osakwe (cultural chair coordinator) who welcomed everyone and introduced the hosts of the night Esther Ojeh (Event Coordinator) and Obi Iloh (Fundraising Officer). The two hosts did an excellent job leading the crowd in activities that included Igbo trivia and raffling tickets to their Star studded after party, where artists like Jidenna Attended.
The night was a huge success but don’t worry, if you missed out on their kickoff event the UIU-LA chapter has more social gatherings to come. Their next meeting time will be July 30th at 7pm. The meeting will take place a week before Umuigbo Unites’ huge annual national convention which, for the first time ever, will be in Los Angeles, California right near LAX airport August 3rd-6th 2017.
