Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh is setting the record straight about a video of her hugging a man who looked like her ex-husband, Olakunle Churchill, at her son’s birthday party.
Kemi Filani reported on Sunday that Tonto and Churchill threw a football-themed bash for their son on his 10th birthday. The proud parents threw him a football match party full of goals, cheers, and celebration at BMO Event Centre, 174 Ahamdu Bello Way, Abuja.
A video from the event showed her hugging a man who bore a striking resemblance to her ex. The video has caused a stir online, with many noting how Churchill is married.
Addressing it via a blog’s comment section, Tonto slammed online users for misinterpreting the video. She dismissed claims and clarified that the man in the video is Churchill’s uncle.
Dikeh explained that the man played a significant role in her life during a vulnerable moment, as her son was born in his home in America under his care and protection. She further revealed that the man and his wife took her to the hospital when she went into labour and opened their home to her for six months.
She described the narratives being spread online as disrespectful, urging netizens to be more thoughtful and sensitive before drawing conclusions.
“This is completely inappropriate and inaccurate. He is Churchill’s uncle and, by extension, my uncle as well. My son was born in his home, under his care and protection. His wife, Aunty Vivian, was the one who took me to the hospital when I went into labour.
They opened their home to me for six months. In a country as demanding as America, they made sure my baby and I were cared for – feeding us, clothing us, and giving us a safe roof over our heads.
They did this out of life, with no hesitation.
Please, Oremi, this narrative is deeply disrespectful to him, to me, and to our families. I would appreciate more thoughtfulness and sensitivity moving forward, please”.
Delta State Governor’s aide, Ossai Success, had earlier called her out over the video. He expressed disappointment in her for her behaviour, noting that Churchill is now married. He stated that her behaviour isn’t right and is unfair to Rosy. Ossai admonished her to respect boundaries, especially when it comes to people’s marriages.
Recall that in January Dikeh shocked many when she extended an olive branch to her ex-husband, Churchill. She revealed that after ten years of public battles, deep wounds, broken communication, bitterness, and pain, God stepped in.
Breaking his silence, Churchill said he was pleasantly surprised when he received a call from his son, King Andre, for the first time. Churchill said hearing him call “Daddy” was deeply touching and a reminder that what God can’t do doesn’t exist. The businessman expressed gratitude to Tonto, calling her the amazing mother of his son for doing a good job.
Refreshing your memory, Tonto got married to Churchill in 2015, but like most marriages, it ended after two years.
