The Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal has declared that the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Uche Secondus must give up his chairmanship position in obedience to the court ruling that sacked him.
He said this while addressing newsmen yesterday after an emergency meeting of the PDP Governors Forum, in Abuja.
He went on to say that the forum was ready to give every support to the Acting National Chairman of the party, Elder Yemi Akinwonmi.
He described the Peoples Democratic Party as a law abiding party that respects and values the rule of law and explained that it was this reason that made them comply with the Port Harcourt court that restrained the embattled Uche Secondus from parading himself as National Chairman of the PDP.
He said that they had a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee and Akinwunmi presided over it.
Akinwunmi, he said, attended the meeting to brief the party on the decision, which is in tandem with the earlier meeting of the Governors’ Forum and as well, the meeting of stakeholders that there should be a meeting of the National Executive Council on Saturday where they shall tackle issues concerning the National Convention which they believe will still hold in October.
He assured PDP members and their fervent supporters all over the country, that even though the road is not an easy one and might be full of bumps, the most important thing remained that they are still holding together strongly as one big family.
He described the PDP as the hope of Nigeria, saying that because they are the hope of the country, they have earned the confidence and trust of the Nigerian nation and will do nothing to betray that trust.
Recall that after the PDP former chairman, Secondus was sacked by a court ruling, the PDP appointed the Deputy National Chairman (South), Elder Akinwonmi as its Acting National Chairman, as confirmed by the PDP spokesman to newsmen on Thursday.
Akinwonmi’s appointment was confirmed after the National Working Committee ended their closed door meeting in Abuja.
The PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan clearly stated that Elder Akinwonmi was unanimously affirmed Acting National Chairman of the party and also confirmed the reschedule of the party’s NEC meeting for Saturday.
Meanwhile, former governor of Osun state, Chieftain and former National Secretary of the PDP, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has shown his interest in the position of PDP chairmanship at the national level.
He stated that his bid will depend on two things, one of which is, if the position is zoned to the Southwest and if he is able to gain the confidence of the stakeholders of the party.
He also stated that he is more than ready to function as PDP National Chairman because of his vast experience garnered from his time served in governance as both the Military Administrator of Lagos State and third civilian governor of Osun state.
Oyinlola who was also the former Commander of Nigeria Military Contingent to Somalia said that his capability, integrity and capacity fetched him such positions and that he served in two states in Nigeria without falling short of the expectations of Nigerians.
