The Ondo State chapter of the Take-It-Back Movement has backed the forthcoming nationwide protest under the banner #FearlessInOctober.
The protest, set to begin on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, aims to demand urgent reforms including a reversal of soaring petrol prices, electricity tariffs, and food inflation.
The movement’s call for action reflects growing frustration over the deepening hardships faced by Nigerians.
According to a statement released by State Organising Secretary Kumuyi Kolawole, “The level of hardship, difficulty, hunger, and starvation in the country has reached an unbearable frequency. The people of Ondo State declare that it is time to rise up and put a stop to these injustices once and for all.”
The movement points out that under the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu, the economic plight of over 200 million Nigerians has worsened.
The statement criticises the administration for its failure to address the issues effectively, despite the significant production capacity of the Dangote refinery, which has been operational since September 2022 and is capable of producing 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
The Take-It-Back Movement questions why domestically produced petrol remains more expensive than imported alternatives and challenges the current administration to provide answers.
“Now statistically it shows that if Dangote gives petrol to Nigeria at no cost I mean for free, he will still have more profit from diesel jet A01 fuel kerosene and gasoline to retain the position of the richest man in Africa, a lot is wrong with our system in Nigeria.
“The deliberate hunger and starvation our government are giving us in this country is unnecessary and uncalled for, it’s appalling.
“Now it is obvious and very crystal clear that all these troubles Nigerians are facing in the petroleum sector are selfishly and deliberately infliction of hardship by the current administration.
“We deserve a better society and a better Nigeria,” Kolawole added.
