Several Nollywood actors, including Kunle Afolayan, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Ayo Adesanya, and Remi Surutu, have faced criticism from Nigerians after launching a new support group for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
The backlash comes amid rising economic challenges affecting many citizens across the country.
The initiative, called the Eko 57 Movement, was unveiled in Lagos State on Sunday and is being coordinated by actor Lege Miami.
A video of the launch, which has gone viral online, sparked reactions from social media users who accused the celebrities of being out of touch with the nation’s current struggles.
Many warned that public figures should avoid seeking financial support when facing personal emergencies, given the ongoing hardships.
Netizens highlighted pressing issues such as a weak healthcare system, insecurity, unreliable electricity, corruption, and the high cost of living, stating that the country’s priority should be the implementation of mandatory real-time election result transmission rather than celebrity-led political campaigns.
