The trial of the Senate President Bukola Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) commenced, September 22 in Abuja.

Saraki entered the CCT at about 9.32am accompanied by no fewer than 50 senators.

Report has it that the Senate president and his supporters had first converged at the National Assembly, from where they took off in a convoy of buses for the tribunal.

Some of the senators present at the tribunal were Theodore Orji, Sam Egwu, Ike Ekweremadu, Shaba Lafiaji, Aliyu Wamakko, Rafiu Ibrahim, Tayo Alasoadura, Hamma Misau, Samuel Anyanwu, Sabi Aliyu Abdullahi, among others.

Saraki is standing trial for a 13-count charge of corruption brought against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau.

The trial tribunal, headed by Justice Danladi Umar, called up the Senate president’s case at exactly 10:32am.

Saraki’s lawyer J.B. Daudu vehemently opposed the idea of Saraki entering the dock, relying on an Appeal Court decided case law in Igbeke vs FRN, ‎2015, 3 NWLR.

Saraki refused to stand upfrom his seat as his case was mentioned.

Saraki is standing trial for a 13-count charge of corruption brought against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau.

The Senate president while taking his plea as the trial commenced, pleaded not guilty to the 13 count charge levelled against him by the CCB.
