Thousands of supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, on Friday shut down Port Harcourt, in protest over what they termed the killings of their members, harassment and blackmailing of security agencies by the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
They stated that the PDP members did this particularly during the December 10 re-run election in the state.
The protesters carried banners and placards with inscriptions such as; “The sacrifice of the police is commendable,” “The Police tried their best but Wike won’t let them be,” “Blood thirsty Wike on the prowl,” We cry for justice among others.
They called for the immediate resignation and the investigation of Rivers Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, and all others, who, according to them, “Governor Wike compromised and indulged in bribery/corruption, which subverted the true will of the people, and resulted to a very poor conduct of the rerun election by INEC, as clearly exposed in the trending audio recording of Nyesom Wike’s conversation with INEC officials.”
The APC supporters also said they were, “protesting the barbaric killing and beheading of a senior police officer and his men at ONELGA during the last rerun election and other crimes against humanity allegedly sponsored/supported by Wike’s government in Rivers State.”
