News broke early on Tuesday, July 24 that men of the EFCC and DSS and stormed the residence of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ikweremadu.
Senate President was however able to leave his Maitama residence but his whereabouts after this became unknown as he did not arrive at the Senate.
With the Senate expected to sit by 11am, we gathered that the development was to change the Senate leadership.
A source within the pro-Buhari senators’ group has told Bounce News that this is part of a bigger plan by pro-Buhari senators to checkmate the ongoing threat of defection by some APC lawmakers.
“Pro-Buhari senators would be at the Senate soon, impeach both Saraki and Ekweremadu and elect new officers.
“The new ‘officers’ would declare the seat of any defector vacant,” the source said.
According to the Senate Standing Orders (2015), in the absence of the two Presiding Officers: Saraki and Ekweremadu, the Senate would elect a Senate President pro tempore who would preside over plenary.
Meanwhile, as this story is being published, some senators have been arriving at the Senate.
They include Senator Stella Oduah, Dino Melaye, Ovie Omo-Agege, Albert Bassey, Clifford Odia, Hope Uzodinma and Abdullahi Gumel.
