Abiodun Ayoyinka, the celebrated Nigerian comedian famous for his role as Papa Ajasco in the 1990s TV series, has appealed to fans for help in acquiring a new phone.
In a video shared on Sunday, March 15, via the Instagram pages of Papa Ajasco and actress Liz Da Silva, Ayoyinka provided his bank details for anyone willing to contribute.
The video caption explained that the actor’s current phone, which he used to manage his Instagram account, belongs to his daughter. Supporters were urged to assist, tag blogs that could amplify the message, and follow his page. “Papa Ajasco needs a good phone. If you have one you’re not using or can get him a new one, God bless you,” the message read, also tagging @gadafitundeednut to ensure wider visibility.
Ayoyinka’s request comes amid financial challenges he shared in a series of videos with online personality Lucky Udu. He recounted how his salary grew only slightly from ₦22,500 in 1997 to ₦45,000 today.
He also revealed limitations tied to the Papa Ajasco brand, which is officially registered by Wale Adenuga. This prevents him from using the character’s name, costume, or identity for other business ventures without permission.
“I don’t own a car or a house,” Ayoyinka admitted, highlighting the struggles behind the iconic character beloved by many Nigerians.
