In a new development that has sparked conversations across social media and public discourse, the Ogun State Police Command has officially released Mirabel, the young woman previously arrested over allegations of making a false rape accusation.

According to police authorities, Mirabel has now been handed over to the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs for welfare evaluation, counseling, and necessary social support.

The case initially gained widespread attention after Mirabel accused an individual of rape, an allegation that quickly circulated online and triggered intense public reactions. However, following investigations conducted by law enforcement authorities, police claimed inconsistencies were discovered in her account, leading to her detention for further questioning.

The situation generated mixed reactions nationwide, with some Nigerians demanding accountability for false accusations, while others urged authorities to handle the matter with sensitivity, citing possible mental health or emotional distress factors.

In an official update, the police stated that rather than pursuing prolonged detention, authorities decided to adopt a welfare-focused approach. As a result, Mirabel was released from police custody and transferred to the Ministry of Women Affairs.

Officials explained that the move aims to ensure she receives:

Psychological assessment

Counseling and rehabilitation support

Social welfare assistance

Professional guidance to address underlying issues

The police emphasized that the decision reflects a balance between justice and humanitarian considerations, especially where vulnerability or welfare concerns may be involved.
