A total of 72 lawyers have been listed for conferment of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee,  LPPC and will be sworn in, December 18, by the Chief Judge of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad.

 

This information was disclosed, Thursday, by the Acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Haji  Bello who is also the secretary of the committee.

 

According to the statement released by Bello, the SAN rank is usually given as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who have distinguished themselves as advocates and academics.

 

They will be sworn in on December 8 2021 to mark the beginning of the 2022 legal year of the Apex Court.

 

Among them are the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ekiti State, Olawale Fapohunda and the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Tony Ojukwu.

 

Recall that the LPPC,  had earlier short-listed 130 lawyers. The SANs-designates are of two categories. They are made up of 62 and the advocate category and 10 in the academic category.
