The development was confirmed on Monday by former presidential candidate and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, who said the legal team had succeeded in obtaining bail for Ojeogwu, with the process currently being perfected.

Human rights lawyers led by Barrister Marshal Abubakar have secured the bail of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, the brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, who was allegedly detained on the orders of Senator Ned Nwoko.

The development was confirmed on Monday by former presidential candidate and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, who said the legal team had succeeded in obtaining bail for Ojeogwu, with the process currently being perfected.

According to Sowore, Ojeogwu’s detention was carried out by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, allegedly acting under the influence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) whom he described as “crooked.”

“Human rights lawyers led by Barrister Marshal D F Abubakar have secured the bail of Regina Daniels brother, Samuel Ojeogwu, aka “Sammy West” who was imprisoned by All Progressives Congress crooked Nigeria Police Force, bail is being perfected.”

SaharaReporters previously reported that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command had arraigned Samuel before a court in Abuja over alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, intimidation, and theft.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement last week Friday, confirming that the charges followed a petition received by the FCT Metro Area Command on October 28, 2025, against Ojeogwu and three others.

She said, “On 28th October 2025, the FCT Metro Area Command received a petition against one Mr Samuel Ojeogwu and three others, alleging criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, criminal intimidation, theft, and cyberbullying.”

According to Adeh, the suspect repeatedly ignored police invitations before being arrested in Lagos and transported to Abuja for questioning.

“Upon receipt of the petition, several invitations were extended to Mr Samuel Ojeogwu by the Metro Area Command for questioning, which were not honoured. Mr Ojeogwu was arrested in Lagos on the authority of a duly issued arrest warrant from a competent court and subsequently conveyed to Abuja for further investigation,” Adeh said.

She added that following the conclusion of investigations, Ojeogwu was arraigned before a competent court on November 6, 2025.

“Upon the conclusion of investigations, the suspect was on the 6th of November 2025 charged in court for offences bordering on criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, assault, criminal intimidation, and theft. He has been remanded by the court pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions,” Adeh stated.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to professionalism and due process, Adeh noted, “The FCT Police Command remains committed to professional policing, due process, and the rule of law.”
