A former contestant of the Miss South Africa Contest, Chidimma Adetshina, has has disclosed that she would be one of the contesters of the Miss Universe Nigeria beauty pageant for 2024.
Speaking, in a video clip posted by the founder of the Silverbird group, Ben Murray-Bruce, Chidimma Adetshina expressed her gratitude to everyone who has supported her so far, even as she announced the news of her decision to compete for the coveted title.
Hear her: ‘I cannot start this video without expressing my gratitude to the incredible people who have shown me so much love and so much support.’
‘I have received an invitation from the Silverbird group, who are the organisers of the Miss Universe Nigeria Beauty Pageant.’
‘I say this with great excitement because I have decided to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 Beauty Pageant.’
She noted that important responsibilities came with the title, but gave her word that she was excited and eager to embark on that path of life.
She further stated: ‘I understand the expectations and responsibilities that come with this title, and I am so excited to embark on this journey. I just want to say thank you so much for this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to participating in Africa’s most prestigious beauty pageant, Miss Universe Nigeria.’
According to an official statement signed an released by the National Director of Miss Universe Nigeria, Guy Murray-Bruce, Chidimma Adetshina’s invitation to compete in the forthcoming Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant is official.
Her invitation came after the beauty queen withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant as a result of the backlash she received over questions concerning her nationality.
Recall that the 23-year old law student from Soweto, South Africa, got a lot of attention when she announced that she would stepped down from the Miss South Africa pageant, giving reasons as the safety and well-being of herself and her family.
She took this decision after the the South African Home Affairs Department suggested that Adetshina’s mother may have committed an ‘identity theft’ to obtain South African citizenship.
When, on August 8, Chidimma Adetshina, stepped off the Miss South Africa Pageant and gave her reasons as concerns for her family’s safety, she shared this post in her verified Instagram handle: ‘Being part of the Miss South Africa 2024 competition has been an amazing journey; however, after much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the competition for the safety and well-being of my family and me. With the support of the Miss South Africa Organisation, I leave with a heart full of gratitude for this amazing experience.’
Resultantly, Miss Universe Nigeria showered her with support and encouraged her to regard the opportunity to take part in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant as an opportunity to represent her father’s native land in an international stage.
They stated: ‘We encourage you to consider this opportunity and take part in a competent celebrates the strength, intelligence and diversity of Nigerian women.
