Due to the ongoing investigation into the case of the recently suspended Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, for financial impropriety, the federal government has appointed Mr Anamekwe Nwabuoku as the Acting Nigerian Accountant General.

He studied accountancy at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, where he graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND). He also bagged a Master of Science (M.Sc) degree in Financial Management from Commonwealth University, Belize.
His Civil Service career kicked off at the Center for Democratic Studies (CDS), where he rose to the position of Principal Accountant between 1992 and 1995. He was then deployed to the Office of the AGF, Abuja as Assistant Chief Accountant, between 1996 and 2001.
Between 2001 and 2003, he had the opportunity to serve in the Office of the Senate President at the National Assembly as Special Assistant to the Senate President on Public Affairs, where his duties included playing advisory roles to the Senate president on Media and other issues.
He commenced duty as Chief Accountant in the Ministry of Defense Headquarters, Abuja and served as Head of Accounts Administration.
After he was promoted to Assistant Director Accounts, he was placed in charge of funds in the Ministry between 2009 and 2012, where he rose to the position of Deputy Director Accounts in 2012 and was deployed to the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) as Supervisory Officer of Ecological Funds Accounts and other related matters.
In 2017, he was promoted to Director Accounts and was posted to Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. He became the Director (Finance and Accounts), Ministry of Defense Headquarters, Abuja from May 2019 to March 2021.
He is presently the Director, Inspectorate Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and currently oversees the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

He was appointed the Nigerian Accountant General in an acting capacity, barely two days after the former AGF, Ahmed Idris, was suspended in order to allow the EFCC unhindered investigation into the alleged N80bn fraud leveled against him in line with Public Service rules.
