A former governor of Gombe State, Danjuma Goje, who currently represents Gombe Senatorial District, has refuted a video that has virally trended on social media, showing guests that were spraying dollars on a couple at a wedding event.
Speaking, through a statement released by Media Aide to the lawmaker, Muhammad Yayari, Sunday, he described the video which has taken over the cyber space, as misleading, as it merely gave the false impression that money was indeed sprayed at the wedding ceremony of Goje’s daughter, Fauziyya and her husband.
The ceremony was held at the Central Mosque, in Abuja on Friday. The statement further read: ‘Attention of the family of the former Governor of Gombe state and Senator Representing Gombe Central Senatorial District of Gombe state, Senator Danjuma Goje has been drawn to a misleading viral video circulating on social media, insinuating that money was sprayed at the wedding ceremony of his daughter, Fauziyya Danjuma Goje.
’‘On behalf of the respected Goje’s family, we categorically deny this mischievous allegation and consider it a blatant and calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the revered family and the esteemed guests who attended the ceremony.’‘
It is, therefore, unthinkable and mischievous for disgruntled elements to share the viral dollar-spraying video depicting or insinuating the same to be part of the celebration of Fauziyya’s wedding. Goje’s family is revered and would never come so low to engage in or condone an activity that is contrary to the laws of Nigeria.
’He maintained that the couple seen in the viral video are not related to Danjuma Goje and his entire family, describing it as the handwork of mischief makers that want to denigrate the entire Goje family. His words: ‘We want to state that the said bride and the groom seen in the viral video aren’t the newly wedded daughter of Danjuma Goje and her groom, and there’s no familiar face to the family. Thus, the video is not in anyway related to Goje and his entire family.
’‘We believe this malicious video is the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to sabotage the successful ceremony and bring denigration to the entire family and its esteemed guests. We urge the public to disregard this baseless claim and appreciate the values of decency and respect that define our family.
’‘Throughout the line of events to celebrate the wedding, there was no place where men and women were mixed.
We appreciate the support and goodwill of friends, associates, and well-wishers during this joyous occasion.’Dignitaries at the wedding ceremony included President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar, former governors, incumbent governors, former members of the National Assembly, as well as serving ones, National Security Adviser, including other dignitaries.During the ceremony, the part of the ‘Waliy’ (Guardian) of the bride was played by President Bola Tinubu, just as the position of the groom’s representative was occupied by the immediate past governor of Gombe State, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo.
