The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited the director-general of the National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration And Control (NAFDAC) Dr. Paul Orhi for questioning over allegations of abuse of office
Orhi was grilled by a team of detectives for allegedly awarding huge contracts to companies in which he has interests.
A source close to the EFCC said the NAFDAC DG arrived the anti-graft headquarters around 10.am on Monday August 3 and was said to have made useful statement to its agents.
The source said: “It is true that the NAFDAC head was summoned by us and he is currently being quizzed in relation to allegations that he has been awarding contracts running into millions of Naira to companies close to him.”
As at the time of filling this report, details of the DG’s release was unconfirmed, but a source said that Orhi’s release will be depend on if his explanations are convincing enough.
In recent time that the NAFDAC boss had come under fire for alleged misappropriation of fund belonging the regulatory agency.
He was accused of corruption by the former finance director, Ademola Mogbojuri, on Sunday July 20.
Mogbojuri said: “Before he joined the agency in 2009, the annual total revenue of NAFDAC was about N2.5bn and he met around N600m in the account. Now, the total internally generated revenue is about N9bn and the agency owes about N5bn in debt.“
