Salihu Lukman, director-general of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), says some people are plotting to return Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman of the party.
Oshiomhole was suspended as national chairman of the APC in June after the court of appeal affirmed his suspension.
This sparked a protracted leadership tussle until the national working committee (NWC) led by Oshiomhole was dissolved by the party’s national executive committee (NEC).
DG APC governors forum – People wants to bully the leadership
In a letter addressed to Mai Mala Buni, APC caretaker chairman, Lukman said it is “very disturbing” that some people want to “bully” the party’s leadership to make Edo governorship the only priority of the APC.
“Just like before the June 25, 2020 emergency NEC, issues of Edo State are dominating public discussions and considerations of issues concerning the party,” the director-general said.
“This is being foisted on the party as a strategy to weaken the initiative of the caretaker committee from taking steps that could facilitate the resolution of the leadership crisis through ensuring that the forthcoming extraordinary national convention to elect a new national chairman and other members of the National Working Committee for the party different from Adams Oshiomhole is blocked.
“In other words, everything is being done to ensure that the internal politics of the party is manipulated to create situations whereby Oshiomhole is forcefully made a contender for the position of the national chairman at the extraordinary APC national convention.”
Lukman said there is a need for a special session of the national caucus of the party in preparation for the governorship polls in Edo and Ondo states.
